Guilt-Free Pleasure: CBC’s Age of Persuasion

One of the things I enjoy about my job is that sometimes I get the opportunity to listen to podcasts while I work. As soon as the creative phase of a project is finished and approved, there is chunk of time that must be devoted to putting the pieces together in one of the design-based programs, which can be a bit tedious some days. On days like this, I listen to podcasts while I work away – and one in particular makes the time fly.

CBC Radio’s “Age of Persuasion” is a must listen. Terry O’Reilly is a former Mad Man who looks at the world of Advertising & Marketing with an eye for historical precident. The 30-minute weekly podcast is a fantastic deconstruction of trends and techniques that you may or may not be aware of.

This podcast is for everybody, not just those of us in the marketing world. It’s intelligent, informative and slightly subversive – drawing back the curtain on an industry that will use every trick in the book to get you hooked on consumption. If you haven’t heard it, look it up on iTunes and give it a whirl.
